More from Chesterfield Borough Council

Residents of Chesterfield are being given the chance to have their say in the formulation of new planning rules to help guide future development in the Borough.

Two 'guidance notes' are being prepared by Chesterfield Borough Council - one to cover the provision of affordable and special needs housing on new housing sites and the other to show how new development should be designed to reduce crime and the fear of crime.

Initial thoughts on the range of matters that the guidance should cover have been set out on the Council's website and are also available from the Planning Service at the Town Hall.

A six-week public consultation on these 'scoping' documents began this week and ends on Monday, January 29, 2007. Meetings have been arranged on Tuesday, January 9 at the Town Hall to give people and groups a chance to talk about the range of matters that the guidance will cover.  The meeting about affordable and special needs housing is scheduled for 1.30-3.30pm and the meeting about designing out crime 4-6pm.

If you would like to attend one or both of these meetings please contact Mark Shewring (tel 01246 345792 or mark.shewring@chesterfield.gov.uk) or Sumi Lai (tel 01246 345954 or sumi.lai@chesterfield.gov.uk).

Any comments you would like to make about the documents should be made by writing to the above address or by emailing forward.planning@chesterfield.gov.uk by Monday, January 29, 2007.  These comments will then be taken into account in preparing the draft guidance.

"The Council would like to hear from people or groups who have views on what the guidance should say", said Cllr Stuart Bray, the Council's Lead Member for Planning and Asset Management.

"We are keen that local people have a chance to shape guidance for development of new homes and sites in their area and we would especially like to hear from groups who may feel that their views have not been heard so far."
