Cubit hits Sevenoaks, Edenbridge and Westerham

The latest Operation Cubit is expected to remove as many as 25 untaxed or abandoned vehicles in Sevenoaks, Edenbridge and Westerham during the current five-day blitz.

The operation is taking place between and Monday 18 and Friday 22 December.
 
Vehicles not displaying a tax disc or without a Statutory Off Road Notice are being clamped and then removed to a car pound. The vehicles could be scrapped if they are not claimed by their owners with the correct documentation.

Operation Cubit was set up a number of years ago in response to resident’s concerns about untaxed and often uninsured vehicles and calls to remove abandoned vehicles that become a target for vandalism presenting a danger to the community.

Cllr Keith Loney, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for safe communities, says: "Operation Cubit regularly carries out unannounced operations like this to remove abandoned and untaxed vehicles from the streets of Sevenoaks District. Untaxed drivers should beware that their vehicles are at risk of being taken away and possibly scrapped."

It is an offence to abandon a vehicle on the road or elsewhere with a maximum fine of £2,500 or three months' imprisonment or both. It is also an offence not to have an MOT, tax or insurance

Operation Cubit is a joint operation between West Kent Police, Sevenoaks District Council, local housing associations and the DVLA.
