Sevenoaks District Council has welcomed the news that the Sevenoaks Playhouse has installed and will shortly be using the first of two digital projectors for its cinemas.

The Playhouse, operated by Kino Holding Ltd, is believed to be only the second cinema anywhere in the UK to adopt this cutting edge technology exclusively for all its cinema screens.

Digital projection has the advantage of a wide range of uses and crystal clear quality. Unlike traditional projectors, where the films have to be 'made up' and 'broken down' from a number of spools into one big roll, a very labour intensive process, digital films are delivered on a hard drive and played from a computer saving considerable time and money.

The major benefit is the sheer number of films that can be stored on site, in the case of Kino Sevenoaks, up to 50, and played in any variety of combinations. It is possible, depending on the length of the films, to have up to eight screenings a day in each cinema. And no matter how many times the film is played, the quality of the picture and sound is undiminished.

This development follows on from the recent improvement, which has seen the booking of cinema seats over the Internet now being made available.

Cllr Felicity Broomby, Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet Member with responsibility for the arts, says: "Once again, Kino has delivered on it promises to improve the experience for those visiting the Playhouse. This technological development offers a wider variety of usage and enhanced picture quality for all cinema goers."
