Work on a new £12 million development for hospital staff accommodation in Basingstoke will be underway by the end of the month.
Servite Houses has taken over management of the existing accommodation at North Hampshire Hospital and during the next two years Servite will demolish the poor quality housing and replace it with 316 modern en-suite rooms and support facilities.
This is Servite’s fifth stock transfer involving an NHS Trust, bringing our NHS partnership units to more than 1,200.
Using a model that has proved popular at the Kettering Hospital site Servite manages, the new accommodation will be in four-bed cluster units equipped with a state-of-the-art electronic communications system for internet, telephones and television.
The redevelopment will also include a new office with an environmentally friendly sedum-roof which reduces heat-loss, absorbs CO2 and keeps energy bills down.
Servite’s main contractor – Leadbitter Construction – will begin work on the first phase of demolition and rebuilding before the end of November, with the first units ready to let in Autumn 2007.
Servite’s senior property manager, Paul Hamilton, said he was delighted that the project was moving forward.
He said: “I am very happy Servite will be able to provide hard-working, valuable hospital staff with the high quality accommodation and management service they deserve.”
