Preparations for London's 2012 Olympics are "substantially ahead" of previous host cities at this stage of the process, Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell said today.
Ms Jowell briefed senior ministers on progress at this morning's Cabinet meeting at No 10.
The Prime Minister's official spokesman said she disclosed that London was two years ahead of Sydney at the comparative stage.
Ms Jowell emphasised the importance of the legacy the games would leave, not just for London but the whole country.
