More from Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council

Girls and boys aged 11 to 16 are invited to take part in Autumn Sport Frenzy sessions being held across the borough.

The free activities, which are run by Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council, include football, basketball, rounders, kwik cricket, handball and rugby - and there are special girls-only sessions too.

Mixed sessions start on Saturday 9 September when a packed programme of sporting fun kicks off at Ellesmere Port’s Whitby Park, between 2 and 4pm.

Monday mixed sessions start at Stanney Fields Park in Neston on 11 September, from 4.30 to 6.30pm.

Both are free and youngsters are advised to wear suitable clothing.

The council’s Youth Sport Development Officer Michelle Aspden said:
“During the October half term sessions will run at sport centres across the borough, and after half term the Saturday sessions will switch to the EPIC Leisure Centre. This is so young people can take part without having to compete with the wintry weather.”

The girls-only sessions start on Saturday 17 September at the EPIC Leisure Centre in Ellesmere Port, from 2 to 4pm. They cost £1 each and must be booked at the EPIC reception.

Activities - which include trampolining, fitball, boxercise, pilates, street dance and multi-sports - were picked after consulting girls throughout the borough.

Michelle added: “The sessions aim to engage girls in physical activity sessions where they can meet new friends and become more confident.”

The sessions last two hours, with the first hour dedicated to one sport and the second to a range of activities. Girls who take part in most sessions will be invited to a two-hour pamper session in December.

Sports Frenzy flyers are available from schools, leisure / sports centres and youth centres.
