Non-profit housing associations are central to delivering the "good society"
described in Gordon Brown's speech to the Labour Party conference today.
The Chancellor picked out affordable home ownership, community care, action on anti-social behaviour and social enterprise as key challenges for government as it strives to improve opportunity for all.
Housing associations, as providers of affordable housing and better neighbourhoods, will be at the forefront of addressing these challenges.
David Orr, chief executive of the National Housing Federation - representing England's 1400 housing associations - said:
"If the Government is serious about delivering the kind of vibrant and inclusive neighbourhoods described in Gordon Brown's speech today, then it will need to work with housing associations. We are already making an impact throughout the country, but there is so much more we can achieve.
It appears that Gordon Brown shares our vision for more prosperous and inclusive neighbourhoods."
