A derelict site in Southall is being turned into a prestigious new residential development through a £3.6 million investment.

ASRA Greater London Housing Association, part of the LHA-ASRA housing group, has acquired the site of the former Victory Pub, at the junction of King Street and The Green, from Thornhurst Properties Limited.

Work has commenced on 18 two-bedroom and three one-bedroom apartments on three floors above a new retail space, and two wheelchair accessible bungalows, one with one bedroom and one with two bedrooms.

The site adjoins St Anselm’s RC First and Middle Schools and completion is scheduled towards the end of 2007. The project, for which the main contractor is Fitzgerald and Burke Limited, has been assisted by a £2.3 million Housing Corporation grant.

Group Development Director for LHA-ASRA, Mukhtar Latif said: "It is great news for the Southall area that a site which has been derelict for a number of years is being returned to productive use.

"Our development will create attractive and affordable new accommodation for 21 families and contribute significantly to the ongoing regeneration of this area. It is just one of a number of similar schemes with which ASRA is involved with the goal of providing good quality homes for local people.”
