Servite has welcomed a delegation from Lisbon to London, on a mission to help them find out about the best way to provide sheltered housing to older people.
The visitors, from EPUL, a building enterprise working for the municipality of Lisbon, visited staff and tenants at a Servite sheltered scheme in South London to see how sheltered housing works in the UK.
They will be taking their new expertise back to Lisbon for the start of a new project to provide top quality accommodation for older people in the city.
They were particularly interested in Servite’s strategy for the future, to cope with the changing needs of older people.
Servite’s Director for Older People, Avril Evans, said: "We recognise that in the future what older people want from sheltered housing is going to change and we’re ready to adapt and find new solutions to make sure our homes and services meet the needs and preferences of older people.”
Tenants at the scheme were particularly excited about the visit and had laid on a buffet of different European foods to welcome their guests.
Joao Teixeira, leading the delegation, said: "It has been very helpful for us to see what Servite are doing here. Their advice will be valuable when we start our new project. And the tenants’ hospitality was also very welcome!”
