Servite Houses have appointed John Gatward as Board Member and Lead for Older People. He will be working closely with Avril Evans, who heads Servite Houses’ new directorate for Older People. This combines housing and care for older people, looking to provide an integrated service that really meets their needs.

John Gatward was Chief Executive of Hanover Housing Group and so has specialist knowledge of housing and services for older people. During his 14 years with Hanover he focused the organisation’s development on extra care housing and influenced government policy on the issue.

Prior to joining Hanover, he worked for the Housing Corporation, running its Approved Development Programme for a decade. Through his work and numerous voluntary appointments, John has worked closely with national and local government over many years.

"The needs and expectations of older people are changing and are moving up the government’s agenda,” says John. "Organisations which provide for the needs of disadvantaged people have a wide responsibility and Board members must ensure that all sections of the community benefit alike from their work. I am therefore pleased to have joined Servite, where I will continue to work to make a difference.”

Servite is delighted to welcome John to the Board.
