The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) has welcomed the appointment of The Rt Hon John Healey MP as the new Minister for Housing in the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG).

TCPA Chief Executive Gideon Amos OBE said:
“The Rt. Hon. John Healey MP’s appointment as the new Minister for Housing is very welcome. At this crucial time for delivering housing in the recession Mr Healey’s experience of local government, housing, planning and the economy will be incredibly valuable.”

“The TCPA look forward to working with John Healey to ensure that planning authorities and other key stakeholders maintain good planning throughout the downturn. The offer of a well planned high quality built environment - good masterplans - will be key in uncertain and faltering economic times for planning and development.”

John Healey has a strong background in local government, housing and planning issues. He was appointed as Minister of State at CLG in June 2007. From 2002 John Healey has worked at the Treasury, first as Economic Secretary and then later as Financial Secretary.
