The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) has welcomed the appointment of John Denham MP as the new Secretary of State for Communities (CLG) and Local Government and urged him to hit the ground running on climate change and housing issues.

TCPA Chief Executive Gideon Amos OBE said:
“There is a genuine opportunity to focus on the real priorities for the country, pressing climate change and housing need. John Denham has shown his keen interest in delivering genuine sustainable development and energy efficiency measures in his Southampton constituency - these issue must take centre stage in CLG’s work.”

Mr Denham also has excellent experience of local government and the housing sector from his time as a Southampton City Councillor from 1989 until 1993, where he was Chair of the City's Housing Committee.
