Response from data security company Check Point on the today's Government's official privacy watchdog claim that an increase of ever larger central databases is increasing the risk of people's personal data being lost or abused.

Nick Lowe said: "Of the 277 data breaches disclosed, nearly half (129) were from lost or stolen laptops, discs and USB sticks. Even though some of these devices were encrypted, the majority were
not, creating real risks for serious security breaches.
"The watchdogs are right: comanies need to protect the data they hold, in a way that can't be got round or tampered with, and they need to do it quickly. It's now a year since the HMRC data loss
and the lessons are still not being learned."
