IVA.co.uk, Britain's biggest online IVA community for information and advice about Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs), has announced that the IVA.co.uk Debt Evening is to be held on the 4th
February 2008.
As the finance industry picks up the pieces in the wake of the world stock market crash, what is next for those in debt in the UK?
From the big banks, down to the Average Joe, everyone is feeling the pinch but is the Insolvency industry in the UK cashing in on the debt crisis with inappropriate advice and greedy
practices?
The experts at the IVA Debt Evening will focus on 5 main topics related to the miss selling of Personal Debt Solutions
These will be:
- Is the miss-selling of Personal Debt Solutions rife in the UK?
- Is the provision of Best Advice realistic?
- Are there effective remedies if the miss selling of Personal Debt Solutions occurs?
- How has the media and advertising influenced the choices of the consumer?
- Recommendations moving forward
The recent sub-prime market crash and subsequent Dooms Day on Wall Street will affect insolvency levels across Britain and the world, and the IVA.co.uk Debt Evening Debate will play an integral
role in the discussion of how the miss selling of personal debt solutions comes into play and what can be done in the future to protect the consumer.
The event will be chaired once again by Dr James Bellini, a broadcaster and futurist with a long television career, including presenting The Money Programme, Newsnight and Panorama.
Previous chairs for the evening have included Anthony Hilton, Financial Editor of the Evening Standard and Peter Hobday, formerly of the Today programme.
The expert panel will be made up of:
- Mark Allen, partner at Grant Thornton. He is responsible for the National IVA service line and is a chartered accountant.
- Rachel Lacey, Editor for MoneyWise, Britain's best-selling personal finance magazine.
- Kevin Still, Director of debt management company, EuroDebt Financial Services and Senior Vice President for Credit Professionals Limited
- Stuart Hopewell, Chairman of the Institute of Credit Management
- Gill Hankey, Director of the Bankruptcy Advisory Service who was recently awarded an MBE on the 2008 honour list
The IVA.co.uk Debt Evening will take place at Browns Courtrooms in Covent Garden 82-84 St Martins Lane London, WC2N 4AA.
Doors open at 4.30pm and the debate will take place from 5pm-6pm.
Wine and finger food will be served before and after the event.
The event will be filmed and screened on IVA.co.uk's popular online television channel, IVA TV (tv.iva.co.uk)
Site Manager, Andy Davie commented: "As panic swept through stock markets worldwide earlier this week with fears that key global economies would enter recession, those already struggling with
personal debt are experiencing an anxious wait to see how British markets would be affected and ultimately inflation and interest rates.
"The IVA.co.uk Debt Evening represents a fantastic opportunity for Creditors, IPs, debt solutions providers and those in debt to gain understanding of debt issues from different perspectives,
whilst tackling current issues.
"These events have become a key date for those in the industry and provide a forum for thrashing out issues at the cutting edge of the debt and credit
industry."
