A bill payment company will help a district council save around £103,000 this year, according to predicted figures.
South Bedfordshire District Council introduced the allpay.net scheme last year and more than £10 million has gone through the system in just 12 months.
The contract for allpay.net allows residents to make payments to the council at over 50 outlets across the district.
Customers can pay their bills at newsagents and grocery stores in South Bedfordshire as well as at thousands of places elsewhere in the country.
The contract was due to run for 19 months but it has been extended for a further six months because of the quality of service provided by allpay.net.
The costs and savings have been almost exactly as predicted when the council first introduced the scheme in December 2005.
The projected saving this year is just over £103,000.
Councillor Philip Penman speaking at a meeting of Full Council of South Bedfordshire District Council said: "The contract has been a great success. We are now offering a significantly more convenient service for our customers and we are saving a considerable sum of money at the same time.
"Our customers are voting with their feet and have made over 140,000 transactions so far. We are just about to start the retendering process and to ensure that our customers continue to have the convenience of paying their council bills at numerous outlets throughout the country."
