Avon and Somerset Constabulary is to link up with one of the region's biggest employers to give people access to the force's website and multi-media services.

A hi-tech internet kiosk is being installed at the Rolls-Royce plant in Patchway, South Gloucs, as part of a partnership between police and the jet engine manufacturer.

The kiosk will be available to more than 4,000 staff at the 30-acre site and will offer the latest Crimestoppers information as well as the opportunity to view crime reduction advice, report crime and have frequently asked questions about the police answered.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary internet and multi-media manager Scott Fulton said: "The kiosks have proved very popular at other sites such as The Mall, Broadmead and at supermarkets and public buildings across the force area.

"This is the first time we have linked up with a company like Rolls-Royce and Crimestoppers and hope the thousands of staff at Patchway will find the kiosk of benefit to them. It is a simple touch screen system with a built in printer to take information away if you wish.

"We are looking to give people as much access to the police as possible and initiatives like this give people a daily insight to policing work which they have not had in the past as well as allowing us to deliver services to them electronically.

As well as giving live access to police information, the kiosks also have a wanted gallery, the latest police news, information on crime statistics and beats and all the latest traffic information.

Rolls-Royce Community Relations Manager Roger James said: "It is in all of our interests to support our local police force, whether as private citizens or company employees.''
