July 2009
News editor Jon Land and I learn a lesson in working together this month - we take inspiration from the "dynamic duo" partnership between Tory Cabinet Member for Housing Cllr John Lines and his director of housing Elaine Elkington at Birmingham City Council, who are forging a council housing renaissance in Britain's second city.
We're focusing on worklessness this issue, with a look at how putting the "social" into social housing is no longer an unusual approach, as landlords rise to the challenges laid down in the Hills report two years ago. We also hear from the Riverside Group, who commissioned a study into the relationship between housing and tenants economic circumstances and meet a young businesswoman who set up a housing charity to help Asian people (of both gender) made homeless as a result of forced marriage.
