Rehabilitation Worker

SWIM Recruitment is seeking an experienced Rehabilitation worker to be responsible for the professional assessment of practical needs of visually impaired people, on a city-wide basis. Naturally, this will require a service combining a range of skills which will enable visually impaired people to achieve the highest possible degree of independence.
Candidate Profile
• To be able to demonstrate an understanding of the social model of disability and of relevant legislation ie CSPDA, Disabled Persons Act, Community Care Act, Disability Discrimination Act
• To be able to demonstrate an understanding of the registration process of blind and partially sighted people, and people with dual sensory loss
• Skills in undertaking domiciliary visits to service users to assess rehabilitation needs, understanding the emotional impact of sight loss and to plan and provide programmes of support to enable visually impaired service users to maintain/regain independence skills
• Skills in organising an allocated workload, prioritising tasks to achieve goals in accordance with agreed plans and meet deadlines and seeking advice when necessary
• To be responsible for the display and demonstration of a range of equipment for visually impaired people and to maintain supplies as appropriate
• To form links and exchange information with other professionals, to communicate in diverse and difficult situations
• To co-ordinate the efforts of ancillary and voluntary workers towards expended support programmes
• Written reports, both complex and simple
• To use supervision effectively and an ability and willingness to identify and respond to personal and professional developmental needs

• Diploma in Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment)
• CRB clearance
• Swift provision of proofs of ID, such as Passport
