Job hopper or career strategist?

Published by Mary Hope on Friday, April 20th, 2012 at 11:09 am

The days of anyone having a job for life are largely over.

The recession has resulted in massive changes in the job market. New skills that no-one would have considered just a few years ago are now essential. Patterns of employment are shifting, with frequent down-sizing and a lack of hierarchy in many organisations. If you want a pay rise, a promotion or a new job, then company loyalty and satisfactory performance  at your current job simply isn’t enough any more.

It’s true that paternalistic companies can still be found…ones where there is good succession planning and open communication, training courses and planned promotions... But no matter how clearly laid out you think your career path is, the global economy can still cause your best laid plans to go awry.

It is now up to each individual to seize the reins themselves. You may have unforeseen career decisions thrust upon you, or you may, sadly, find yourself out of a job at very short notice. Learning how to manage your career is therefore critical.

That’s why I wrote my book. You can’t afford to let chance or an employer manage your career anymore, don’t leave it all to chance. You have to be proactive, take charge and stay in control as much as you can. These are new skills, no one taught them to us in school, or college or even when we first joined the workforce. You can be one of the few who knows how to make sure that you get paid what you are worth, who has the skills and knowledge required to land a new role, through this book you can learn those skills and the skills of having job satisfaction.

I called my book 'Get Paid More, Promoted Faster and Feel More Satisfied -15 Top Career Strategies For Life' But it absolutley recognises that work is not jsut about pay. I may not be about pay at all but about a range of other motivations.

This booklet  will equip you with the vital skills you need to take your career to the next level. Whether you’re looking for a new job or chasing a promotion, these essential career strategies will help you do it.

The topics covered include…

• How to demonstrate your worth to your boss

• Taking a strategic approach to your career

• Making the recruitment market work for you

• Striking the perfect balance between your personal and professional lives

• Understanding what really motivates you

• Crafting the perfect CV

These strategies are the end result of my years of experience in Human Resources and as a teacher, trainer and headhunter. Whatever your goals and wherever you currently are in your career, they are guaranteed to put you on the path to success and happiness.
