What price care

I've been perusing the July issues of Inside Housing. The 11th July issue is full of the muddled thinking we are now sadly used to from the government. We see a huge spread on the massive cut backs in Supporting People funding, which is not just cutting back support to the most vulnerable, but also making an exodus of highly trained and committed housing professionals. The next article is about the need for more support for people with dementia and male victims of domestic violence. There was a small piece on a High Court ruling, stating that all local authority departments may be treated as one in dealing with duty of care issues toward vulnerable tenants. Taken together, I see a pattern emerging – we are storing up huge problems not for the distant future but for the near future, especially in this economic downturn.
